Welcome to the WikiProject Video games on the English Wikipedia! We are a group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to video games.

For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

Goals

The project aims primarily to:

provide guidelines and recommendations for articles that describe all aspects of video games
improve Wikipedia's coverage of video games by creating, expanding, and maintaining such articles
serve as the central point of discussion for issues related to video games on Wikipedia
maintain the portal

Discussion

Issues concerning video-game related articles and topics are discussed on the main talk page.

Assessment

The Assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's video game related articles. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. This system is used to promote A-Class articles.

Essential Articles

The Essential articles page lists the most important topics related to this WikiProject. The list could be used to select candidates for Wikipedia 1.0, or perhaps even to create a video games WikiReader. It should also allow us to identify areas that need work. Feel free to fill in the table by rating the quality and importance of articles. If you disagree with a grade, or an important topic is missing, be bold and change it.

Peer Review

There is a peer review page that users can use to nominate articles for which they wish to get feedback from other contributors so that they may become featured articles. Please do not nominate stubs or underdeveloped articles.

Reference library

The Reference library is designed to help editors find sources for previews, development history, critical reviews, or other information in published material. The project especially aims to help editors with articles concerning games released before the full advent of the internet for game coverage. If you have relevant magazines or books, please contribute them to the archive.

Video game images

The Video Games Images department is a working group of individuals dedicated to ensuring that all video game-related articles have images, whether they are boxart, screenshots, or both, as well as the required fair use rationale.

Task Forces

Task forces are meant to provide centralized information and discussion for topics that have a sufficiently large scope, but would not benefit from having a separate WikiProject with all the associated bureaucracy that would involve. The currently organized task forces can be seen by expanding the relevant section in the box to the right.

Project Userbox

	This user is a member of WikiProject Video games. Sign up for the VG Newsletter.

Anyone can participate in this WikiProject. Please indicate your participation by adding your username to the members list. You may also add the userbox {{User WPVG}} to your user page, shown on the right. This will add you to Category:WikiProject Video games members. Alternatively, if you do not wish to use the userbox, you may add [[Category:WikiProject Video games members|{{PAGENAME}}]] to the end of your user page.

Award

You can award the VG Star to those users you feel have gone the extra mile to improve video game related articles. Here is an award template: {{subst:Barnstar VG|text on award. ~~~~}} A userbox to display this barnstar can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Award userbox. A ribbon alternative is also available here.

Promotion

You can promote the WikiProject by placing the generic {{Wikipedia ads}} template on your userpage, or more specifically just Image:Qxz-ad31.gif, which produces the image to the left. You can use the following advert template: {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Advert}}

Welcoming

You can welcome new users who have made good contributions to video game-related articles by adding the {{vgproj welcome}} template to their talk page.
