 | This is a tracking category, a category intended to build and maintain a list of pages primarily for the sake of the list itself. Rather than being part of the encyclopedia's categorization scheme, these categories are used to track, for example, pages using deprecated syntaxes, to maintain a list of pages that may need to be edited en masse later, or to aggregate the members of several sub-categories by other classifications into one larger list. |

This is a tracking category for disambiguation pages. It enables us to use {{PAGESINCATEGORY:All disambiguation pages}} to get the exact number of disambiguation pages in Wikipedia.
Pages are put in this category by templates such as {{disambig}}, {{airport disambig}} and {{roaddis}}. That is, templates built with the {{dmbox}} meta-template, which is doing the actual categorising.
This category lists disambig pages in all namespaces. (For technical reasons it doesn't list pages in template space, but there should be no disambig pages there anyway.)
